The $74 billion in inflows pushed year-to-date inflows past $542 billion.

Fixed income ETFs saw a record $74 billion in monthly net inflows in October, marking a sixth consecutive month with over $50 billion in allocations. This streak is unprecedented in the industry, with the previous five months also seeing significant inflows.

The record-breaking haul coincided with a sharp bounce-back in core debt markets, with broad core bonds staging their best monthly performance in over three years, rallying by over 2.4% in October.

The $74 billion in inflows pushed year-to-date inflows past $542 billion. Aggregate bond ETFs took in $23 billion, alongside $9.3 billion for Investment Grade Corporates and $2.0 billion for High Yield.

According to Matt Bartolini, Global Head of Research Strategists at State Street Investment Management, the magnitude and breadth of bond flows are key reasons why bond ETFs are a secular growth engine of the ETF industry. Bartolini notes that investors are turning to the ETF structure to express a wide array of fixed income views, rather than chasing a particular investment trend.

In October, the VettaFi US Investment Grade Bond Index rose 2.06%, significantly outperforming the 0.38% return of the VettaFi US High Yield Bond Index.

The VettaFi US IG Enhanced Yield Index posted a 2.11% return by focusing on major U.S. corporate issuers whose bonds offer wider spreads than comparable-rated peers. This method captures extra yield while maintaining credit quality.

VettaFi will be discussing fixed income trends next week at the 2027 Market Outlook Symposium, providing further insights into the market’s decisive rotation back into high-quality corporate yield.
